My first dinner in the UK: fish and chips of course. My aunt who is a local, has been visiting Allan's for over 15 years and has sworn that their fish and chips is one of the best in the city. And, she was right.

Looking at their menu, they have a variety of fish and chips options, rice dishes, toasties and more. I decided to go for the small fish supper (one fish, chips, mushy peas, and a pot of tea). All of our food came out fairly quickly. The place was rather busy so I was expecting to wait a little bit for the food, but not even 10 minutes later, the plates were in front of us.

I added some vinegar and salt to my fish and chips and went to work. Damn, it was good! I was impressed. The batter was perfectly crispy and the fries were tangy from the vinegar. I loved every bite.

While you're on the deep fried train, you need to try their deep fried mars bars. Wow. I'm not the biggest fan of mars bars, but deep fry it and pair it with some vanilla ice cream and now you're talking. Make sure to wear your stretchy pants here because you definitely will be feeling full after this meal.

A local favourite that's a really great find for fish and chips if you're in the Paisley area.

Popped in here for lunch after forgetting my sandwiches. I tend to be doing that a lot these days.

I took away so in essence it's just your normal chippy.  It has a nice wee cafe bit that you can eat in. Although I wasn't eating in this time I do like the concept of eating in a chippy. The memorabilia, old news paper articles and old prices on the wall are interesting and make eating in an interesting experience.

Anyway back to the take away part.  I'm not a paisley resident but many swear that Allan's is the best chippy in paisley.  I've yet to be convinced to be honest.  It's not bad but when people tell you it's so good your expectations are always raised.

When I was in it was very busy with office types, and it's always reassuring to see a place busy.

Large Sausage supper I can't actually remember what I paid it was £2.90 or £3.90 I know that's a big difference but I've been busy so it's taken me a whole to get reviewing.

2 sausages and a small portion of chips. It was a small box and even that wasn't full.  It definitely felt a bit stingy. It was tasty enough but I will be trying somewhere else before I return to Allans

Excellent place for a sit down fish supper, this place is very small but rather cosy. Its well priced and offering a good range of foods and drinks. Decor is abit dated but is in keeping with the place, staff are very good at there job and very attentive.

This place reminds me of the Scottish film "My American Cousins" - when the  Italian Gangsters arrive at the Scottish Airport and the immigration official asks them if they are Fish or Ice Cream.

    Allan chose fish.

It is very Italian and has the wonderful Scottish-Italian Chippy interior. Lots of wooden decor with the massive fryer sitting like a Stainless Steel Altar along one wall. It is a thing of beauty in a very lovely place.

I like these guys. They were my local chippy when I lived in Paisley and I would wander down, get asked how things were going. I would talk to the owner about his golf game and the waitresses about their grandkids. Great place with great people.

The large Italian owner with the booming voice would tell you about the Haddock, where he had got it that morning and the quality of it. Wonderful things. You did not mind that the haddock was cooked to order and that a trip to Allan's was a fifteen minute slice out of your day.

However, in the last couple years, things have gone downhill a bit. When you have a reputation and most of your business comes from the lunchtime school trade, maybe you don't have to try as hard.

Places around them have not gotten better, Allan's has just gotten a little worse. The fish is not as good and the quality of the chips is also a little less.

I hope they turn it around but right now we go somewhere else.
